PTO Meeting - September 24, 2024 

 

Introduction from Sun of herself & PTO Exec Board 

Quick review of some of last year’s budgets vs. this year 

Call for volunteers and fundraising 

New committees 

  • Holiday decorating committee - bringing spirit to the school 
  • International Family Welcome Committee - Spanish & Japanese (reach out if there are other languages that should be represented) 
  • Working Parents Committee - connect PTO with working parents & school 
  • K Welcome Committee - organize events to connect kindergarten families  
  • Digital Wellness Committee - how to navigate our new digital world 
  • Field Day Committee - refreshments, etc. on field day 

Volunteers are also needed for other roles  

  • Co-Treasurer  
  • Secretary  
  • Midland Parade - kicks off the Midland Fair 
  • Playland Day  

Midland Social - Meredyth Ryan 

  • biggest fundraiser of the year; raises the bulk of the money for the PTO  
  • Sign-up parties are the biggest way to raise money & meet other Midland families  
  • Midland Social - November 15th - Inspiring the Spirit homecoming/tailgate theme 
  • Need volunteers to host sign-up parties, kids and adults 
  • Specifically need parents for the 4th and 5th grade to organize parties  

Overview of Committees  

REACH - Kristen & Paige 

  • kick off the year with clothing drive 
  • Veterans Day activities and speakers 
  • Midland Elves - Need someone to run this  
  • Community Service Week (late April to Early May) 
  • Each grade selects an organization to work with and/or an activity to help the organization; variety of activities to engage in the community; gives perspective about the need in Westchester County 
  • Candy drive post Halloween  
  • Anything you are passionate about, REACH can likely partner with them and organize something  
  • Looking for new chairs 

Yearbook Committee - Michelle 

  • Photos: submission link will be coming out soon 
  • Want to connect with the class parents to ensure each child is represented  
  • When you are in school, please take pictures and submit  
  • Great to grab some photos with the teachers 
  • 15-20 pictures per grade  
  • No screenshots 
  • Small group pictures are needed, not just whole group shots 
  • New Student: if they join after picture day please get photo of them to include on the class page  
  • Must be district sponsored events only  
  • Only photos from this school year  
  • 5th Grade will be voting on theme 
  • 5th Grade will be designing the cover & Mr. Riley has a committee to vote on the winner 

Digital Wellness Committee - Shawna 

  • Safely navigate this digital age we live in 
  • Delayed access to smartphone & social media  
  • Educate parents on how to get ahead of this 
  • Partner with RYC 
  • Will need help fundraising  

Midland Fair (end of April/beginning of May) - Melissa & Rosa 

  • Need participation from parents in all grades, ideal for each family to volunteer for a shift at the fair  
  • Need volunteers to run committees in the fair 
  • Need fair sponsorships; if we get enough sponsors it will cover the cost of the fair and anything raised will be fundraising 
  • 5th Graders will pick the theme 
  • 5th Grade parade, weather depending, will kick off the fair; fun opportunity for 5th graders 

 5th Grade Committee  

  • 5th grade experience - graduation, beach day, Blizzard Ball, etc.  
  • Need lots of parents to be involved  

Lots of other opportunities to get involved. The PTO website lists all communities. 

Update from Mr. Boylan  

  • great success at back to school night 
  • Great book fair, thank you to all volunteers 
  • K bring your parent to lunch, only one parent invited  
  • Lost & Found full - label your clothing & belongings  
  • Rainy day arrival & dismissal - please pay attention to directions; evolving process  
  • K & 1 will be dismissed to the front; older siblings should join them in the front  
  • Will receive an email and text on the days this in effect @ 2:45pm 
  • Make a plan with your child for what your dismissal plan
